Reed College professor to resign eight months after video of racist rant

Paul Currie, a tenured psychology professor at Reed College, will resign from his post eight months after a video captured him going on a racist rant against local restaurant employees.

Reed president Audrey Bilger announced in a letter to campus on Wednesday that Currie would resign effective Jan. 6.

The video, which was posted to social media in March, shows Currie saying something about “hiring illegal immigrants” and questioning whether an unidentified employee was born in the United States. Currie was on sabbatical at the time.
