Gov. Cox shares no evidence that Utah colleges require DEI statements—while U. of Utah says it doesn’t

Utah’s flagship university says it does not require prospective hires to sign a diversity, equality and inclusion statement before they’re employed.

The comment to The Salt Lake Tribune on Thursday comes the day after Gov. Spencer Cox alleged the practice of requiring such agreements during the hiring process at high education institutions was “bordering on evil.”

At the University of Utah, an applicant’s approach to diversity issues may be a consideration in the hiring process, but there is not any specific “DEI statement” that employees are required to sign, a spokesperson told The Tribune.
