Celebrating Models of Excellence

Award-winning insitutions honored at first-ever Models of Excellence dinner at NACUBO

Recognizing colleges and universities that make student success a priority through innovative initiatives is the purpose of UB’s new Models of Excellence award program.

To honor recipient schools from the first two rounds of the program, a celebratory dinner was hosted by the program’s sponsor, Higher One, during NACUBO’s annual meeting in Nashville in July. The event was held at the Old Hickory Steakhouse at the Gaylord Opryland Resort, where the conference was located.

Andrew Crawford, senior vice president of campus services and operations for Higher One, and Daniel Kinnaman, publisher of UB, began the evening with introductions and award presentations for representatives from the five honoree colleges and universities in attendance.

The success initiatives included a data-driven retention plan, a scholarship-matching program, a peer financial education system, helpdesks where students can ask upperclassmen any question, and an open-source online recruitment system developed in-house. Colleges and universities with proven or emerging student success initiatives, particularly those that cross department boundaries, can apply for the Winter 2015 round of Models of Excellence via the website, as well. The deadline is September 2.
