David Cho, previously of BlackRock, an asset management firm, is now chief procurement officer of the University of Massachusetts and leading its new shared services project, the Unified Procurement Services Team (UPST).
The effort—which consolidates multiple procurement operations into one single unit—is expected to save the university more than $16 million in administrative costs over the first 12 to 18 months, allowing the system to direct more funds to student financial aid, academic programming and deferred facilities maintenance.
This shared services project is the most recent step in the university system’s ongoing efficiency and effectiveness program, which officials launched in 2012 to improve services while reducing overall costs.
