Tulane extends President Michael Fitts’ contract; lauds healthy finances, diverse enrollment

Tulane University President Michael Fitts, who doubled the size of the school’s endowment and steered the university through both the pandemic and Hurricane Ida, will remain in his role until at least 2026 after the school’s governing board voted unanimously to extend his contract.

School officials declined to elaborate on the details of Fitts’ contract, but according to the school’s tax filings, Fitts was paid $1.34 million in 2020 making him the highest-paid university president in the state. Fitts has been Tulane’s president since 2014.
