Sample “Grit Scale” questions

Students are asked about what statements (of 10 total) apply to them, responding with “very much like me,” “mostly like me,” “somewhat like me,” “not much like me,” or “not like me at all.” Scores reflect how passionate and persevering they perceive themselves to be.

1. Setbacks don’t discourage me.
2. I don’t give up easily.
3. I am a hard worker.
4. I finish whatever I begin.
5. I am diligent. I never give up.
6. I have overcome setbacks to conquer an important challenge.
