W. Kent Fuchs named president of University of Florida

As Cornell's provost, Fuchs developed strategic plan for achieving academic preeminence

W. Kent Fuchs, provost of Cornell University, has been named president of the University of Florida.

Fuchs developed Cornell’s strategic plan for achieving academic preeminence as one of the world’s top 10 universities; launched a university-wide reimagining initiative that enhanced Cornell’s academic stature; and led a team and a strategy that resulted in the creation of a new graduate applied sciences campus on Roosevelt Island, New York City.

He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Association for Computing Machinery and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Fuchs will begin his tenure on Jan. 1, replacing Bernie Machen, who has served as UF’s president since 2004.
