Pa. state universities open up another retirement incentive to thin its workforce

Pennsylvania state universities are looking to further lean out their workforce by offering an retirement incentive program to eligible employees.

The State System of Higher Education’s governing board ratified agreements with its seven labor unions to offer an enhanced sick leave payout that is identical to the incentive it offered last year that attracted 403 faculty and other system employees to call it a career.

It is part of several avenues the system is pursuing to get its financial house in order as well as position the system through a redesign effort to respond to the commonwealth’s workforce and students’ needs going forward.
