Fall enrollment is up 10 percent at Maine community colleges.
More than 21,000 students are enrolled this year, up by about 2,000 compared to last year.
Officials say the free college program, enacted in 2022, is one reason enrollment is up. Another is the “Transfer ME” program, which allows community college students to continue to pursue their education at one of Maine’s four-year public universities.
