The new strategy may have arrived in the nick of time: Over the past decade, Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) enrollment has dropped 30% and community college enrollment has decreased by 37%, according to officials.

One association believes this move incentivizes individuals to apply for jobs during a tight labor market and a shrinking talent pool.

Since fall 2017, enrollment at the state's four-year public institutions has declined by 12.4%, a dramatically worse dip than the nation's overall 3% decrease in that sector, according to the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center.

Students in all but three states would have to work more than 40 hours a week to pay for school and living expenses if minimum wage remains constant.

The Foundation for Individual Rights and Freedom (FIRE) selected these institutions based on some of their head-scratching decisions such as circumventing a teacher's academic freedom, removing funding from a LGBTQ+ events, instating policies that would streamline firing tenured professors, and others.
