Astrid Tuminez will leave Microsoft to hold her first executive-level higher ed leadership position when she becomes president of Utah Valley University, effective this fall. She currently serves the company’s Southeast Asian branch as regional director for corporate, external and legal affairs.
Raised in poverty by her 15-year-old sister in the Philippines, Tuminez started her education when she was 5 when Catholic nuns took her under their wing. Tuminez is also now an adjunct professor at the National University of Singapore’s Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.
Previously she was the academic school’s vice dean of research and assistant dean of executive education.

- On July 1, David Manderscheid will begin his role as provost and senior vice chancellor at the University of Tennessee. Manderscheid now works as executive dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and vice provost for arts and sciences at The Ohio State University.
