Three future facilities are announced by various higher ed officials across the country

Matthew and Joyce Walsh Family Hall of Architecture

University of Notre Dame (Indiana)

The new, classically inspired home of Notre Dame’s architectural school, funded in part by a $27 million donation from the Walsh family, is a 100,000-square-foot edifice located at the south end of campus. The two-story building, surrounding a court, will include classrooms, studios, architecture library, an auditorium and workshop spaces.

The new building will enable the school to add two new graduate programs in historic preservation and real estate development. John Simpson Architects (London) serves as design architect, Stantec (Chicago) is the executive architect and the Walsh Group (Crown Point, Ind.) is the main contractor for the project. Completion expected by December 2018.

Boreham Tennis Center

University of the Ozarks (Arkansas)

This new facility will feature eight state-of-the-art lighted tennis courts, championship-grade spectator seating and a multifunctional clubhouse. The first floor of the complex will include locker rooms and facilities for concessions and storage. The second floor will have an open events space that offers a full view of the complex, which will also feature video streaming and teaching technology.

Design was by Derck and Edson Associates (Lititz, Pa.), and the contractor is East Harding Construction (Little Rock, Ark.). Play should begin by March 2017.

Innovation and Discovery Center

Ursinus College (Pennsylvania)

This $29 million building will house the Parlee Center for Science and the Common Good as well as the U-Imagine Center for Integrative and Entrepreneurial Studies.

Features will include 30- and 50-seat technology-enhanced active learning classrooms, flexible laboratories, open meeting and work spaces, and a makerspace for students to undertake original research and entrepreneurial initiatives.

Scheduled to be completed by fall 2018, the 42,500-square-foot facility is designed by Ellenzweig Associates (Boston). The new facility will also connect two major buildings, enhancing the overall campus layout.
