While the published tuition numbers continue to climb — and tend to generate headlines when they hit six figures — the average amount students pay after grant aid has remained relatively flat, or even declined in recent years.
“Our grading is too compressed and too inflated, as nearly all faculty recognize; it is also too inconsistent, as students have observed,” Dean of Undergraduate Education Amanda Claybaugh wrote in a 2025 report.
Within five years, associate’s degree graduates earn about $20,000 more than high school graduates, and bachelor’s degree holders earn about $30,000 more, according to the report.
“It’s going to create labs, facilities that meet the needs of today, including life sciences—health facilities, housing development, art spaces, and more,” Healey said during her announcement at Bridgewater State University.
MIT’s dean of admissions and student financial services, Stu Schmill, said that 16% of enrolling undergraduate students in the Class of 2028 identify as Black, Hispanic, Native American, or Pacific Islander. This percentage has decreased from 25% in recent years.
