Wells College, a private college in Aurora since 1868, has announced it will close its doors at the end of the current semester. The college is citing financial difficulties and declining enrollment as reasons the college cannot stay afloat.

According to U.S. News and World Report, Wells College had a total undergraduate enrollment of 342 in fall 2022.

Wells College is the second small college in Central New York to close in the past two years. Cazenovia College in Madison County permanently closed after its spring 2023 semester, citing rising costs and lower enrollment.
