University of Michigan will spend $75 million to acquire dozens of Ann Arbor properties, paving the way for the second phase of its Central Campus housing project.

The sale, pending a vote by the Board of Regents during its May 18 meeting in Dearborn, would authorize the purchase of 49 private properties north of Elbel Field, according to university documents.
