UCO students protest faculty cuts amid $15 million budget shortfall

Central Oklahoma administrators recently announced the layoffs and fee increases to mitigate years of enrollment decline.

A procession of chanting students quieted to murmurs as they came face-to-face with their university president.

Several dozen made a short walk across the University of Central Oklahoma campus to Old North Tower — the college’s oldest and most iconic building — where administrative offices are housed.

Along the way, they chanted “save our professors” and decried the university’s plan to cut 40 or more faculty positions to help offset a $15 million budget shortfall.
