Tuition hikes set for Michigan’s 10 public universities

Tuition rates for all 10 of Michigan’s public universities will rise for the coming school year.

According to a report from Michigan Public, tuition hikes for the 2026-27 school year range from 2.5% to 4.37%.

Michigan Public says the uneven economy and more cuts from state funding have triggered tuition increases. State funding covered approximately 70% of the universities’ operating costs in 1979. Now, that number is down to approximately 22%.
