SUNY makes progress toward getting struggling schools back into the black

The State University of New York system is leveraging state aid and an enrollment increase to pull its least profitable schools out of a financial hole.

A new report shared with syracuse.com shows that five SUNY schools have lost money in recent years, and two more in Central New York are on the verge of being in trouble. A bump in state aid and increased enrollment across New York, however, have brought two of those schools out of the red.

SUNY is asking state lawmakers for a $1 billion cash infusion to complete critical renovations.
