Southwestern Illinois College’s board of trustees chair steps down, becomes president of the institution

Southwestern Illinois College, Community College District #522 has lost the chair of its board of trustees—because he’s been appointed president of the institution.

Nick Mance, who spent two decades as chair, resigned recently to participate as a candidate in the college president selection process.

The remaining board members appointed him to the new role, citing his background as a certified public accountant.

The college has suffered financially from enrollment declines and a drop in state funding from 2015 to 2017.

Mance is also familiar with K12 education finances, having worked as chief financial officer of East St. Louis (Ill.) District 189.

Mance began on July 1, the same day as the vote.
