Eastern Nazarene College, which was founded in 1900, has "faced significant financial headwinds in recent years" with the board of trustees and multiple presidents pursuing alternatives to closure, according to the institution.

The Department of Education wants to extend sex-discrimination-based protections to gay and transgender students. However, one U.S. district chief judge believes the effort "derail[s] deeply rooted law."

His campaign later walked back the former president's comments, saying that there would be an "aggressive vetting process" that would "exclude all communists, radical Islamists, Hamas supporters, America haters and public charges" and that the policy would apply only to the "most skilled graduates who can make significant contributions to America."
