President’s resignation, controversy cost Albion College its affiliation with prestigious Carnegie Foundation

Due to the recent resignation of its president, Albion College is no longer the home of a prestigious academic foundation that categorizes all American colleges and universities.

The Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, which identifies the educational and research purposes of various colleges, was about to settle at Albion College due to former President Mathew Johnson’s long affiliation with the foundation.

When Johnson resigned as Albion College president after a public confrontation with a prominent Black resident of the city, Carnegie Classifications decided to move on, said foundation spokeswoman Lisa Gonzales.
