Pa. State System university asks to sell off part of its housing inventory

With high school graduate numbers down, declining enrollment has been felt at regional public universities.

One of Pennsylvania’s state-owned campuses wants to sell part of its housing inventory as it and other State System of Higher Education campuses adjust to what may be a new normal for residential enrollment. Edinboro University is asking the system’s board for permission Thursday to divest two decade-old structures to help ease debt and allow greater focus on other operational needs, given forecasted enrollment trends in Pennsylvania and beyond.

System campuses have sold other properties, but a spokesman said Wednesday that this would be first involving a student residence. The State System board of governors meets Thursday in Harrisburg.
