Ohio senator’s bill targeting perceived liberal bias in colleges is back—with more rules for schools

A bill aimed at tamping down perceived liberal bias at Ohio colleges that failed last legislative session is back and the newest version contains more requirements for schools. Senate Bill 1 will be sponsored by state Sen. Jerry Cirino of Kirtland, he said during a recent news conference.

“It is called Senate Bill 1 for a reason,” Cirino said. “It is our top priority.”

The bill in many respects goes further than his previous bill. It completely bans faculty strikes and DEI trainings, reduces terms for trustees and requires new trustee trainings.
