As Hurricane Ian crashed through the state, Florida State University and Tallahassee Community College, among others in the capital city, are working to help with a recovery that may be among the largest in the state’s history.
Both institutions have become a staging ground for emergency trucks and trailers, which are being sent down south to impacted areas now that the storm is passing.
“This is the nature of our business,” West Tennessee Healthcare first responder Eric Echtenkamp said. “It’s a bigger scale here, but it’s what we do on a daily basis. I’ve been out and done this about four to five times, including when Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005.”
