How CSU math mandates affect California community colleges

California State University’s math mandates, which go into effect fall 2018, simplify the articulation policies for students transferring from California community colleges to CSU.

“Many community colleges already have existing alternative math pathways,” says Laura Hope, executive vice chancellor for educational services at California Community Colleges. “They may need some modifications to align with these changes but the colleges won’t necessarily have to start from ground zero.”

Additionally, community colleges can now certify courses at the local level without having to send them to California Community Colleges for certification.

“This profoundly helps the partnership between CSU and community colleges,” says Sally Montemayor Lenz, associate vice chancellor of educational services at the Contra Costa Community College District“This is the next logical next step in the transferring process.
