The 2025 best graduate school rankings measure universities’ performance in a range of subjects, from medical to business to education.

U.S. News & World Report on Tuesday released its annual list that has added a stronger focus on student outcomes in recent years. The list is designed to help students identify the best options in their course of study.

“This year’s rankings emphasize the results that education can bring,” U.S. News proclaimed.

Best law schools

Stanford University and Yale University tied for No. 1. University of Chicago is No. 3, University of Virginia is No. 4 and University of Pennsylvania–Carey is No. 5.

Best medical schools: Research

The top tier includes:

  • Baylor College of Medicine
  • Case Western Reserve University
  • Emory University
  • Hofstra University/Northwell Health (Zucker)
  • The Mayo Clinic School of Medicine (Alix)
  • The Ohio State University
  • University of California, Los Angeles (Geffen)

  • University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

University of Wisconsin–Madison is No. 1. Tied at No. 2 are Teachers College-Columbia University, University of Michigan and Vanderbilt University. No. 5 is University of California, Los Angeles.
