Award-winning institutions honored at Models of Excellence dinner at NACUBO

Stories of student success filled the air a few cobblestoned blocks from the NACUBO annual meeting headquarters in Montreal this July, as administrators from six institutions formally accepted Models of Excellence awards.

CASHNet, the dinner’s host, sponsors UB’s Models of Excellence program, which has, since 2015, honored campus initiatives involving multiple departments that are driving student success in college and beyond.

While these efforts focus on ensuring a bright future for college students, the celebration took place at the historic Place d’Armes Hotel & Suites, overlooking a vibrant square just across from the Notre-Dame Basilica, the oldest-standing building in the city.

In the hotel’s chic brasserie-lounge Suite 701, conversation was just as colorful as the city outside the wide-open corner doors. Attendees shared how they’re making a difference in students’ lives—from an intense two-day event for freshmen already at risk of dropout to a comprehensive initiative recruiting back senior-year stopouts.

Other efforts being honored involve living-learning communities, core course completion, credit planning for transfer students, and a paid internship program where students create mobile apps for local businesses.
