A necessary new normal in college admissions

Each year, August 1 is very much like New Year’s Day for Common App—marking the beginning of a new application season and a renewed opportunity to provide millions of students with the chance to access, afford, and attain a college education.

Last year, the unprecedented circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic moved our celebration to a virtual environment —the first of which marked something of a new normal for us.  As we launch the 2021-2022 application this year, I can’t help but reflect on last year’s challenges, how Common App and the higher ed community at large confronted them head-on, and how the lessons we learned can propel us forward.
