W.V. higher ed leaders praise community college bill passage
Lawmakers and post-secondary institutions across West Virginia have welcomed the passage of Senate Bill 1, which will proponents say will open new economic opportunities and provide a talent pipeline for industry.
Lawmakers in both houses passed the legislation near the end of the recent session, which creates the West Virginia Invests Grant Program. This program takes a last-dollar-in approach, which means other grants and scholarships will kick in before state funds are used to pay the remaining tuition balance. Student loans do not have to be used to qualify for West Virginia Invests.
