The University of Illinois system board approved a plan to ask the state for more money next year, seeking a 12 percent increase over this year for the fiscal year 2021 that starts next July 1.

That would lift the system’s budget to $697.3 million in operating funds for next year, up $75 million from the current 2020 fiscal year, the system said in a statement today. The system includes the University of Illinois campuses in Chicago, Urbana-Champaign and Springfield (it does not include the other public state schools).
