Higher Education board needs to embrace transparency
Some members of the State Board of Higher Education just don’t get it when it comes to open records and open meetings. Over the years they have been called to task for violating state law.
The Tribune editorial board doesn’t believe the state laws are difficult to understand. Nor are the laws too cumbersome for those who must follow them. The laws were created to protect the public’s right to know so action isn’t taken in secrecy. There are exceptions to the laws, but the balance has tipped toward transparency.
