Hand Sanitizer Help from Higher Ed – Infographic

The coronavirus pandemic is an all hands on deck situation—and individuals within higher ed are stepping in to help by making hard-to-find hand sanitizer from scratch and distributing it to those in need.

With the rapid spread of coronavirus moving quickly from a possibility to a major problem within just a few weeks, the supply of hand sanitizer and other germ-killing basics in stores and on e-commerce sites has failed to meet the demand. Most healthy families hunkered down at home can make do with soap and water. But the need for hand sanitizer continues, especially for health care workers and others on the front lines.

While donations of university-owned personal protective equipment have been widespread nationwide, individuals within higher ed have also stepped in to help—by making sanitizer from scratch and distributing it to those in need. Here’s a look at how professors and researchers at Stony Brook University in New York, Hamilton College in New York and The University of Virginia’s College at Wise made and distributed the sanitizer.
