Fla. education institutions want more money for school security, technology, growth

Sarasota County School Board Chairwoman Jane Goodwin came to Sarasota County’s legislative delegation Monday asking largely for one thing: more money.

Last year, the Florida Legislature approved a $400 million allocation for school security and mental health and a $101-per-student increase following the school shooting in Parkland that killed 17 students and teachers. But after taking away additional costs incurred for school security, local superintendents said that only amounted to about a 47-cent-per-student jump.
