Davidson College receives historic $85 million combined gift

Davidson College has announced that it has received a historic combined donation of $85 million, which will help transform the college’s library and the way Davidson students learn.

The Duke Endowment is providing $60 million of the combined commitment, making it the largest gift in Davidson’s history. In addition, Bob Abernethy, a California business leader and the son of the founder of Davidson’s Philosophy Department, George Abernethy, is providing $25 million.

The two gifts will be used to help renovate and expand Davidson’s existing library, combining its physical collections with services and space more attuned to the digital age and collaborative learning.
