Yale University is requiring students to inform the school in advance of any off-campus party that involves more than 50 people.
The policy, which went into effect this semester, involves registering the location of the party and the name of an official host with the school, the New Haven Register reported Monday.
The idea is to curb underage drinking and prevent any problems with neighbors, said Paul McKinley, a spokesman for Yale College, one of the school's 12 residential colleges.
"We want our students to be safe, to be good neighbors and to know how to call for help," he told the newspaper.
