Western Michigan University Changing Emergency Alert System, May Expand Security After Newtown School Shooting

The Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting came as a sad reminder to Western Michigan University administrators that it is time to change its WMU Alert System, which robocalls students in the event of an emergency. Earlier this month, two armed robberies occurred on WMU’s campus. The university twice activated the system, which blasts out 4,000 phone calls, but received mixed reviews regarding its effectiveness. Some students received no call, according to the Western Herald, while others received multiple.
