With not so much as a nanosecond of suspense, the State University of New York Board of Trustees approved the divorce of the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering and the University at Albany last week. To this we say: Why?
The SUNY administration's recommendation on which the decision was based, once you boil away the higher education jargon in the crucible, states simply that the NanoCollege should be its own college because it believes it should, and offers a cooked-up list of anecdotal evidence and grandiose potential.
