U. of Southern Mississippi begins most expensive construction project in school history

The University of Southern Mississippi broke ground on the largest and most expensive construction project in school history Tuesday, when officials planted their shovels in the soil behind the Thad Cochran Center on the Hattiesburg campus.

Officials said they hope the $55.6 million multi-building residence hall project will provide one payoff in the form of college diplomas.

“Research has shown that a positive residential hall experience has great impact on helping students achieve success both academically and as they grow and develop on their path towards graduation,” Southern Miss President Rodney Bennett said during Tuesday’s ceremony.
