U Of Northern Iowa Provost Withdraws As Finalist For Top Job At Southern Illinois

University of Northern Iowa Provost Gloria Gibson has withdrawn as a finalist for the top job at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville.

Gibson told the UNI student newspaper she withdrew her name because “there is much work to be accomplished” at UNI, and because the recent death of her mother meant she felt less urgency to move near family. She had been selected from a pool of 37 candidates for the chancellor position.

Gibson was named provost of UNI in 2009, and served as interim president for several months last year while President Ben Allen underwent treatment for cancer.
