Oakland University, Faculty Near Contract Deadline

With fall classes starting in less than two weeks, Oakland University administrators and faculty have not reached an agreement on a new contract.

A contract between the administration and the 700-member Oakland University chapter of the American Association of University Professors expired last week. Both sides agreed to extend the contract until 5 p.m. today.

"It's an expression of good faith," said Karen Miller, president of the AAUP chapter. "At this time, it's really premature to talk about job actions."

Teachers are expected back for classes Sept. 4.
