NASFAA University strengthened by psychometric analysis

Monday, February 10, 2014

NASFAA University is now working with Assessment Systems Worldwide (ASW), a leader in the assessment and testing industry since 1979, to perform a psychometric analysis of the NASFAA University Credential Tests. Psychometrics is the field of study concerned with the measurement of knowledge, and ASW will perform a Cut-Score Study to identify the most appropriate passing score for each NASFAA U credential test. Eight tests are currently available, with the remaining eight to be released in 2014.

“This is an exciting step for NASFAA University,” said NASFAA president Justin Draeger. “The number of NASFAA U credentialed professionals has now reached a critical mass to provide data to perform a detailed analysis of the appropriate passing scores. Confirming these scores and making adjustments, if necessary, will become a yearly process for the testing center going forward.”

Implementing a cut-score analysis is a necessary practice in nationally recognized credentials and certifications. The statistical analysis is used to determine whether a particular test score is sufficient to demonstrate an intended outcome. Cut scores are generally based on accepted methodology and reflect the judgments of qualified evaluators.

“For NASFAA University Credential holders, this is an important process that helps validates your credential to current and future employers,” said NASFAA’s Chief Training Officer Connie McCormick. “It puts NASFAA University on the path toward satisfying the standards of the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) and validates the work of former, current, and future NASFAA U participants.”

Work with ASW will begin this spring and all tests should be validated by the end of 2014.

NASFAA University provides nationally-recognized standards in financial aid training and allows participants to earn credentials for mastery of content in sixteen recognized areas.
