Kalamazoo Valley Community College will automatically send students emergency text messages when necessary.
KVCC put the system to use on Friday when it closed Anna Whitten Hall, Center for New Media and the Texas Township campus on Friday due to weather conditions.
In the past, the college asked students to subscribe to receive text messages but students will now have to opt out of text alerts if they do not wish to receive them.
All students with a listed cell phone will receive messages if the college closes, classes are canceled and in other emergency situations.
