Judge Denies Motion To Disqualify Alabama A&M Attorneys In Lawsuit Against Research Institute

Alabama A&M University won an early court skirmish over the Alabama A&M Research Institute in the school's lawsuit against the institute. Last week, Madison County Circuit Judge Willam Bell denied a motion by the research institute to disqualify the attorneys representing Alabama A&M. Bell's order came after a motion hearing on Nov. 4. In the order, the judge gave no explanation for his ruling. The research institute sought to disqualify Alabama A&M attorneys Rod Steakley (who represents the school's board of trustees) and Bill Lunsford because of conflicts of interest and because they served as mediators in discussions between the school and the institute before the lawsuit was filed in June.
