An investigation is continuing into the separate discoveries of three cats on the University of Montevallo campus killed under unusual circumstances that are causing a stir in the Shelby County community.
"I think everyone is kind of shocked that someone is capable of doing an act like this," Jamie Bessette, the institution's director of university relations, said this morning. "It's hard to imagine someone is capable of something like this."
Bessette said he and others have confidence the animal carcasses found on campus earlier this month do not translate to a threat to safety of staff and students. "We do not believe that anyone is in harm," he said.
The university's police department in a crime alert issued Thursday about the animal cruelty cases echoed the reassurances to the public.
