HSU Hazing Aftermath Spreads To Other Teams

In the wake of the decision to suspend the men's soccer season following allegations of hazing, the Humboldt State University Athletic Department will institute a new policy of random drug and alcohol testing for student athletes.

The new policy is in addition to random testing for performance enhancing drugs already done by the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

”We aren't looking at this as a means to punish student athletes for what happened,” Athletic Director Dan Collen said. “What we are really hoping is that this will be an educational opportunity.”

Collen said he hopes the new policy will provide an opportunity to change the type of behavior that led to the alleged hazing incident on Aug. 4.
