In 51 weeks on the job as the University of Connecticut president, Susan Herbst has heard a lot of advice — but it's a fair bet no one has told her to aim higher.
She's unabashed about UConn being not just a teaching and research machine but also an economic engine for the state. And to that end, the clear-speaking Herbst was right to the point Thursday morning at the Levy & Droney law firm's annual client and friends breakfast.
"We hope to invent something like Gatorade," Hebst said.
No, she wasn't talking about creating a soft drink. She's talking about a blockbuster. Gatorade, famously, was developed for the University of Florida Gators football team — and its licensing put the university on the marketing map.
