Two of the top leaders of University of California, Davis' signature College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences have resigned their posts.
Dean Neal Van Alfen and executive associate dean James D. MacDonald tendered their resignations in letters to Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi and the university's provost Ralph J. Hexter.
In his resignation letter, Van Alfen said Katehi had told him she planned to start her search for a new dean two years before his current term was to expire instead of waiting until next year - his final year - a standard practice.
"The chancellor requested that I serve until a replacement is found, but given her decision to replace me before the end of my term, I feel I must resign," the letter read.
