CU-Boulder Considers Offering Insurance Discounts To Employees Who Work Out

The University of Colorado is considering offering discounted health insurance premiums to employees who work out.

As they explore a new wellness program, school officials are also looking to partner with 24 Hour Fitness, or another gym franchise, to offer discounted rates to employees.

Supporters say that providing incentives to employees to be healthy pays off because they are likely to have fewer health problems.

Jill Pollock, chief human resources officer, told members of CU's Staff Council that she and other administrators have been looking at successful programs nationwide as CU's own Health and Welfare Trust looks to expand its offerings to employees. CU's trust provides benefits for employees and their eligible dependents.
