New college students short on math and English skills will be required to complete a special program over the summer before starting at a California State University.
The goal of the Early Start program is to begin the skills building process before students arrive on campus for their freshman year, according to university officials.
Students admitted for fall 2012 will be notified if, based on entry tests, they will be required to complete the program.
More than half of all first-time freshmen attending CSU campuses are not prepared for college-level math, English or both, according to a release from the university system.
