Dayton police are working with the University of Dayton officers to expand patrols on or near the university campus after six incidents of violent crimes against UD students in September.
“It’s unusual for this neighborhood to have as many incidents as we’ve had this year,” said UD Police Maj. Larry Dickey. “I don’t know what to pin that to.”
UD reported six robberies on campus in 2010, the most recent year for which statistics are available. There was one in 2008 and one in 2009. During those three years, there was one robbery reported in an on-campus student housing facility. There were two robberies on public property, both in 2008.
“We are concerned,” said Dayton Maj. Larry Faulkner, commander of the Central Patrol Operation District. “We have put together joint patrols and are working hand in hand with UD.”
